What brought you into the manufacturing industry?
I stumbled upon a job posting after my high school graduation. I had no idea what the manufacturing industry was about when applying, but I just went for it – and I’m glad I did! I was hired as a receptionist 25 years ago, but today I’m an inside sales representative.
How did your career progress to inside sales?
I held different positions throughout my career at Lyndex-Nikken. I went from receptionist to be the inside sales manager’s assistant, then to becoming an inside sales representative. I have stayed in inside sales for so long because of the strong customer relationships I have built.
This month marks your 25th Anniversary at Lyndex-Nikken (congratulations!), what has been a change you have noticed over the years?
I started my career at Lyndex-Nikken in the 90’s, so the technology advancements from then to now has been amazing! Technology innovation is such an important part of manufacturing to help increase machining accuracy, efficiency, and productivity - and we play an important part in it!
What is rewarding about your career in manufacturing?
It’s so rewarding to see the industries that Lyndex-Nikken serves that touches our daily lives - from aerospace, to automotive, to medical industries. I love when I see a specific brand of plane, car, spacecraft, or even talk to someone about their knee replacement and know that I was a part of it because the manufacturer or supplier choose our quality tooling to machine a part.
What does it mean to you to be selling the highest quality products in the industry?
It puts my mind at ease to know that our customers are using quality products and they will see that (and quite often hear that during machining) in the results of their final part quality. Our customers tell me all the time how much they love our products - many say that it’s all they use!
How do you go above and beyond to help customers?
Going above and beyond for customers comes so naturally for me – that’s why I chose a career in inside sales. If it’s holding stock, ensuring their packages arrive safe, or just a quick call to check up on them, they appreciate it and it makes me feel valued for going the extra mile.
What is a valuable quick tip that you can share with customers?
You will never regret choosing quality.
What advice do you have for women thinking about a career in manufacturing?
Don’t be afraid, jump right in! Many years ago manufacturing may have started as a male dominated field, but today it is for everyone.
If you could go back in time what is one thing you would tell yourself year one on the job?
Year one on the job, I would tell myself to take some manufacturing classes to have a basic foundation of manufacturing knowledge to start with and then my hands-on training would help to quickly build on that.
What is a fun fact that you have learned on the job?
The average plane takes 5-6 million parts to make.
